Losing Weight For Health

I have started a new habit. Yep, and I am happy about it.  See we often think of habits as bad because they often are.  But with a little determination, it is possible to start a good habit.  From looking at several articles, there doesn't seem to be a concrete amount of time needed to form a new habit.  However, it seems that consistency and repetition are key.

Well my new habit is actually working out on the elliptical.  Its easy.  Well, not the workout, but getting in the habit of working out.  My plan was simple-make it fun so I will want to do it.  Let's face it, working out isn't always enjoyable. And if I don't enjoy something, I can find about a million good reasons why I don't need to do that something. So, I placed my elliptical machine right in the room with the TV.  Yep, I am serious about this weight loss now.  Guess what?  It really works.  So now when I come in to watch TV instead of plopping down in the chair, I get on the machine.  If it's an interesting show, I get so engrossed in it that I hardly notice I'm exercising.

This is one weight loss tip I wanted to pass along.  It is working for me, and just maybe something like it can work for you too.  I do know dieting and exercising are hard. So if there is anything that will make them more palatable then that's got to be a good thing.  Maybe, you need to buy an Ipod to take with you so you will keep doing your workout?  I don't know, but I think we should do whatever it takes to help us not to quit. Let's face it, we are dealing with our lives here, and we are worth it!!!  Have you found any tips that are helping you in your journey.  I sure would like to hear them in the comments.

  1. Hi, Paul. Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving such a nice comment. :D

I'm going back to read your other posts, but it sounds like you've staarted well.

I've been thinking about getting and elipticalm myself. If you have any suggestions for make/model, I'd sure appreciate it. One reason I've hesitated to buy one is that I don't want to make a poor choice,, wasting money.

I too have an elliptical, but I use my iPad and watch Netflix while I'm working out.....you're right it does pass the time, especially when you don't really want to do it!
I look forward to following your journey.

  5. Hmm...I am so not knowing of exercise I have only an idea what and elliptical is. I know my stationary bicycle makes too much noise. And I worry about my grand babies putting their hands in the spokes. It is a dinosaur.

I can see how it could be that way and work, though. Good luck in your weight loss. I will be following and coming around here and there.

  7. I've seen people get great results using an elliptical. I just wish I didn't get so board with stationary equipment because it sure is convenient.

  10. Hi Paul, Thanks for visiting my blog. I read your three posts -- hooray for you for joining all of us in our quests to become healthier.

I also viewed your youtube videos -- you are absolutely adorable and funny, and you sound very determined to get healthy. I've been blogging for 15 months, and I can tell you that I probably would have had a difficult time keeping off what I've lost so far if it had not been for the support of the blogging community. I thought I knew everything there was to know about weight loss when I started blogging (after a lifetime of watching my weight), but I continue to learn every week from my bloggie pals. Stick with it -- the payoff is fabulous!

  11. Thanks for visiting my blog:) I'm with you on this one. We have an elliptical and treadmill right next to each other in our basement facing a big screen TV. And, thanks to our Tivo, we always watch something while exercising. I could not do it without!

  12. Hi Paul, this is a great idea! I think you have to almost trick yourself into doing things you don't like until they become habits. It sounds like you are using excellent strategy with yourself. Awesome post!
