Still Struggling With Weight Loss?

Are you still struggling with weight loss?  I know I am.  Maybe struggling is too strong of a word as I can't say I have been doing much on the weight loss front at all.  I know what I need to do to lose weight, but there are an infinite number of reasons why I often choose not to do what I need to do.  The problem is I really enjoy cooking, and unfortunately I enjoy eating even more!  Ever feel the same way??

  1. Maybe you would like to try hypnotherapy for your weight loss goal. It's an effective alternative method for shedding those pounds and keeping it off.

    1. It is an idea, Drew. I would have to say I am too proud to try it. I want the bragging rights of being able ( if I can) to do it my self.

  2. Paul, where you live is absolutely beautiful. I am jealous.

Carbs get a bad press. Not a carbs are bad but not all carbs are good either. If you're going to cut down on carbs cut out white ones, white bread, white rice, white pasta. If you do want a slice pick wholemeal, rye, Wholegrain or Ezekiel. They're much better for you.

Now onto fruit. Yes, I agree with you with bananas, I limit myself to one medium-large or 2 small a day. I don't have them every day but I try not to go over that. Now the carbs in fruit and veg are better for you than the carbs in say processed white bread. But as for apples, it's been proven eating apples and berries a day boosts weight loss. For potatoes try sweet potatoes instead they're full of goodness. If you want potato salad try non fat natural yogurt instead of mayo.

If you want to have better milk, have skimmed or why not try unsweetened almond milk.

  3. You have a beautiful view. I'm seriously jealous. :(

As far as the low-carb thing goes, I have to say..., well, you look miserable. You don't look like you're going to be able to eat like this forever. You look sad (which makes me sad). You have to look at this as a rest-of-your-life gig. Of course, first, you have to get to your ideal weight or BMI (ugh...this part blooooows...trust me...I'm still not there almost two years later - oy). But...you need to find a way of eating that is going to get you through the rest of your entire life. It's not a part-time diet. It's full-time, baby.

I completely agree with Nikki (who commented above). Keep carbs, but make them the healthier ones. Her recommendations are really much better for you (and tasty). Plus, you'll be able to eat 'em for the next 50+ years, ya know? When I think about not eating potato salad once or twice during the summers for the rest of my life, well...damn...I would just assume shoot myself in the head. Just keep your portions low and make the better choices and try to limit those white starches (and when you have 'em, use healthier things in 'em like yogurt or even light sour cream).

It's going to be a struggle. It's not going to be easy to always step away from the potato chips. BUT if you don't get a handle on it NOW, it'll only make it more difficult and more dangerous for your body. Ya know? Get 'er done. :)

  4. Sorry to hear that you're struggling. I have to say, that in order to be successful in losing weight, I needed to change the way I thought about food. Making it less important in my life. That is how I reached goal weight. Doing that process takes at least a year in my experience (changing my attitude to food).

As for low carb vs high carb, I've tried both and have to say that really each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

    1. I totally agree with you Mannie about changing my view of food. I sure is not easy being that I have abused food for all of my life. Thanks for the feedback!

  8. Hey Paul,

I am sorry to hear that you are struggling with your weight loss. It is a good thing though that you are taking initiative to lose the excess weight. I myself had a weight problem and had gone through several different clinics in an attempt to lose weight but none had worked for me until my friend referred me to Paul Mirdamadi at www.the-optimal-you.com. I was always skeptical about online personal training, but after my experience with The Optimal You, my view on online training has changed significantly. Paul is extremely knowledgeable in weight management as he did his Masters in kinesiology specifically working with obesity. After filling out an assessment, he made modifications to my current habits. It's difficult to do a complete 360 and follow a plan that is not in line with what you are currently doing and that is why what The Optimal You does worked for me. They made small changes and each became a part of my daily habits before new things were added. Check their website out and message him with any questions you may have. Hope this info helps and good luck.
